  7. The award is an opportunity for those brilliant young journalists to demonstrate a wealth of investigative journalism, and, in doing so hold power to account. The annual competition is organised in partnership with the UK's Foreign Press Association (FPA) and is presented at their annual awards event in London. The competition enables journalists aged 30 and under, from countries with a Gross National Income (GNI) per capita of less than USD20,000, to send in their best stories. The entries are scrutinised by the foundation and then independent, expert, FPA judges. The three finalists are flown to London to attend the gala award night in London, along with a host of other potential award winners and leading figures from the world of journalism.   14. We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to work on theoretical aspects related to the mathematics and physics of open quantum many-body systems. The research will focus in particular on the development of numerical methods based on tree-tensor networks; the simulation of open many-body quantum systems with long-range interaction; and the characterisation of quantum phases and phase transitions. This PhD position will be embedded in the Research Unit FOR 5413 "Long-range interacting quantum spin systems out of equilibrium: Experiment, Theory and Mathematics" which is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The Research Unit addresses questions concerning many-body quantum systems with long-range interactions. Its ultimate goals are the understanding, realisation and control of complex quantum matter possessing collectively enhanced yet robust properties with applications in emerging quantum technologies, such as metrology and sensing. It builds on the Center for Quantum Science at the University of Tubingen and seeks to establish a flourishing research environment that brings together an interdisciplinary group of scientists from experimental and theoretical physics as well as mathematics. The PhD will be supervised by Prof. Dr. Christian Lubich (Department of Mathematics) and co-supervised by Prof. Dr. Igor Lesanovsky (Institute for Theoretical Physics). Candidates need to have a strong background in mathematics and physics, a strong academic record and commitment.   16. The Science, Engineering, and Technology Group of KU Leuven invites applications for a full time research professorship in the research unit Numerical Analysis and Applied Mathematics (NUMA). The research of NUMA covers many aspects of computational mathematics, including approximation theory, numerical integration, numerical (multi-) linear algebra, numerical partial differential equations, uncertainty quantification, optimization and control, discrete optimization and scheduling, and high-performance computing.   19. The Technical University of Denmark opens a 2-year Postdoc position starting August 2023. It is part of the research project CUQI: Computational Uncertainty Quantification for Inverse problems https://sites.dtu.dk/cuqi. We create a platform for modeling and computations needed to apply UQ to a range of inverse problems. This position focuses on further development of our package CUQIpy https://cuqi-dtu.github.io/CUQIpy including development of the underlying computational methods. You will join the developer team and play an integral role in expanding CUQIpy for a wide range of inverse problems and UQ analyses. You will interact with the CUQI team to ensure that our theory and methods are put into optimal use. Research directions may include: - Design, abstraction & implementation of Bayesian methods. - Approximation methods for high-dimensional complicated posteriors. - Scalable optimization-based samplers (such as RTO). - Sampling methods exploiting gradient information. - Support and training of CUQIpy users. About the Office of the High Representative (OHR) OHR is an ad hoc international institution responsible for overseeing implementation of civilian aspects of the Peace Agreement ending the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The position of High Representative was created under the General Framework Agreement for Peace (GFAP) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, usually referred to as the Dayton Peace Agreement, that was negotiated in Dayton, Ohio, and signed in Paris on December 14, 1995. The High Representative is working with the people and institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the international community to ensure that Bosnia and Herzegovina evolves into a peaceful and viable democracy on course for integration in Euro-Atlantic institutions. It welcomes applications from high-level international scholars to develop their innovative research projects in France.
