  1. The Zonta Club of Joliet recently awarded Milica Maras the 2017 Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship for women pursuing degrees in business leading to a business management field. Maras is an international student-athlete currently pursuing an accounting degree in the College of Business at Governors State University, where she maintains a 4.0 GPA. Growing up in Belgrade, Serbia, Maras dreamed about changing the common stereotypes of women, especially in the business world. In addition to her father who was an accountant and banker, Maras gained inspiration from her mother, who opened a private kindergarten in Serbia, becoming a successful business owner in 2003. This led to Maras’ enrollment in the Law and Business School of Belgrade, where she completed four years of education before receiving a volleyball scholarship to Southwestern Christian College in Texas. While completing her studies, Maras’ participated in a variety of service activities, including volunteer work for the Red Cross in Serbia and participation as a member of the Scout Group “Rarko Vujovic Croce,” member of Kiwanis International Club and the volleyball team in Serbia, Texas and Illinois.
