Visa denial

I will be a graduate student this summer and I would like to continue my education in US, but my problem is that I got a J1 visa denial last year (and three J1 visa issuance before that), so now I am concerned about an application for F1. It would be too long and too expensive to apply to colleges and prepare for TEOFL and GRE for nothing. I was wondering if you had a similar case. I would appreciate if you could give me some advice. Thank you.

As much as we can remember, there was no case like that. There were some people who were denied tourist visa and then had their F-1 without any problems, but that's somehow different.

If that visa denial was connected to some fraud or some other criminal behavior, we can' t really tell you what would happen, but we're sure it is not going to be good. Your chances are much better if that visa denial was in relation to some other possible issues with your status at that time.

Also, your chances are much better if you have clear situation regarding your financial support for the program you would like to start. That is, if you have financial support from the institution in the US and you have means to support yourself, there should be no major problems ahead of you.

Just to be on a safe side, you can write to the Consular Section of the Embassy about your problem or wait for the next chance to chat with them online.
