POSITION FOR MATH TEACHING ASSISTANTSHIP

The International Academic Center is currently hiring for the position of Math Teaching Assistantship. The successful applicant’s responsibilities will include instructing students in the techniques and strategies required to solve quantitative and logical problems on high-stakes exams, as well as grading homework and performing light administrative duties. Contact hours will vary but tend to range from 6 to 12 hours per week with compensation based on contact hours.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The TA will work with prospective undergraduate and/or graduate students who are in 8 week test preparation cycles at IAC. The TA will be familiar with all aspects of the ACT, SAT, GRE, and GMAT high-stakes exams and the principles upon which those exams are based. The TA will develop and maintain professional knowledge of high-stakes exam resources. In addition, the TA will be responsible for grading homework assignments as well as monitoring and reporting upon candidate progress.

The incumbent is responsible for other duties as required or requested by the Test Preparation Manager or the Director.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

A. Education:

Relevant Bachelors Degree with some graduate school preferred.

B. Prior Work Experience:

None required, but teaching experience a plus.

C. Entry Level Training:

On the job training.

D. Knowledge:

Must have solid knowledge of spoken and written English. Must have the ability to follow policy and procedure with fine attention to detail.

E. Skills and Abilities:

Must possess exceptional organizational and social skills.

POSITION ELEMENTS

I. Supervision Received:

The incumbent works under the supervision of the TEST PREPARATION MANAGER.

II. Available Guidelines:

Standard written policies and procedures, and written and oral instructions from the Test Preparation Manager.

III. Exercise of Judgment:

Expected to exercise excellent judgment in working with the public, partners, and colleagues.

IV. Authority to Make Commitments:

None .

V. Nature, Level, and Purpose of Contacts:

Extensive contact with the public that requires sound judgment and tact. .

VI. Supervision Exercised:

None.

VII. Time Required to Perform Full Range of Duties after entry into the Position:

Eight weeks.
