The Smithsonian Office of Fellowships and Internships (OFI) is pleased to call for applications to the 2018 Smithsonian Institution Fellowship Program (SIFP) and affiliated programs.

Programs now accepting applications include:

The Smithsonian Institution Fellowship Program (SIFP)

As Smithsonian Institution’s flagship in-residence fellowship program, SIFP offers awards every year to graduate students, predoctoral students, postdoctoral, and senior investigators to conduct independent study or research at one or more of the Smithsonian’s 19 museums and research centers.

The Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship (SARF) (nominations due 11/13/17)

SARF provides outstanding visual artists from around the world a unique opportunity to conduct independent research related to Smithsonian museums, research sites, collections, and scholars for the inspiration of new artwork.

The Smithsonian Biodiversity Genomics Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Smithsonian Postdoctoral Fellowship in Biodiversity Genomics promotes collaborative research in fields involving comparative genomic approaches such as phylogenomics, population genomics, metagenomics or transcriptomics, that have a component that involving significant bioinformatics analysis.

The Smithsonian Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry of Museum Collections Fellowship

The Smithsonian Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry of Museums Collections Fellowship supports research that focuses on mass spectrometry analysis from any type of museum or research sample including artwork, objects, animal, or plant tissues.

The Smithsonian Postgraduate Fellowship in Conservation of Museum Collections

The Smithsonian Postgraduate Fellowship in Conservation of Museum Collections offers opportunities to conduct research and gain further training in the conservation of museum collection objects. This opportunity is open to recent graduates of masters programs in art and archaeological conservation (or the equivalent) and conservation scientists (including those at the postdoctoral level).

The Smithsonian Mpala Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Mpala Postdoctoral Fellowship promotes the study of biology, anthropology, geology, hydrology, material science, social science, soil science or related areas by supporting independent research projects in residence at Smithsonian Institution facilities and the Mpala Research Centre

The George Burch Fellowship

The George E. Burch Fellowship supports independent post-doctoral research or study related to Smithsonian collections, facilities, or experts in the fields of medicine, biology, chemistry, the social sciences, and the humanities and they apply to health and medicine

The James Smithson Fellowship (application deadline is 1/15/18)

The James Smithson Fellowship offers early career opportunities for post-doctoral researchers interested in gaining a better understanding about the interplay between scholarship and public policy through a Smithsonian lens. The theme for the 2018 program is History, Memory, Authenticity.

Please note, unless noted otherwise, the application deadline for most of these programs is Friday, December 1, 2017.
