administrator Posted January 7, 2020 Report Share Posted January 7, 2020 The Center for Research in Mathematical Sciences Applied to Industry (CEPID-CeMEAI) at the University of Sao Paulo opens a post-doctoral research position in Image Processing. The selected candidate will work at the Institute of Mathematical and Computer Sciences of the University of Sao Paulo in Sao Carlos/SP, Brazil. Sao Paulo Research Foundation provides financial support with a monthly salary of R$R$ 7.373,10. Financial assistance can also be provided to cover transportation expenses as to the move to Sao Carlos - Brazil. An additional grant is also offered to include participation in highly relevant conferences and workshops, as well as research trips (limited to 15% of the annual amount). The position is for one year. Project: Image processing for flood detection and prediction Supervisor: Prof. Jo Ueyama Job Description: Flooding has been problematic in the state of Sao Paulo, especially in the rainy seasons. To mitigate the flood problem, we devised and deployed an Internet of Thing-based platform to detect and predict. Along with this platform, a camera that collects stream images periodically has been made available. The project aims to detect and predict flooding using images and thus automate the process of flood identification without human intervention. Such an approach only uses cameras without the need for the river height sensor that remains submerged in the urban streams. Such sensors are usually susceptible to failure as they are continually in contact with river water. The successful candidate will work to establish a collaboration between image processing and the Internet of Thing areas. Requirements: Applicants should have a PhD in Computer Science or related fields such as Computer Engineering. Candidates must have got their PhD in the last 5 years.
