France: PhD Position, Machine Learning for Renewable Energies

A PhD position is open at the National Institute of Solar Energy (INES/CEA/LITEN/LSPV) and the Laboratory of Mathematics (LAMA UMR 5127) University Savoie Mont Blanc. The position will be based at Savoie Technolac campus near the picturesque lake Le Bourget, France. The research will consist of developing and applying state-of-the-art Dimension Reduction/Machine Learning methods for the early diagnostic of photovoltaic panels of solar powerplants. The research results will be published in scientific journals and presented at conferences (NIPS, EuroVis and others). The applicant must at a minimum hold a Master degree in Applied Mathematics or related quantitative or engineering fields with a high emphasis on computing, design and implementation of numerical algorithms. The programming skills in Matlab or Python are required, along with some inclination towards visually appealing data visualization. Some prior knowledge of Machine Learning will be welcome, but not strictly necessary.

The appointment will be made for three years (the standard duration of a PhD thesis in France). The salary, working hours and holidays are according to the CEA scale, including full social benefits.
