Symantec Research Labs Graduate Fellowships will be awarded to outstanding Ph.D. and M.S. students who meet the eligibility criteria listed below. A key goal of the program is to fund innovative research that has real-world value, in areas of Symantec?s business interests in information security, availability, and integrity. Each year the Alfred Friendly Press Fellowships (AFPF) brings approximately ten mid-career reporters and editors?usually between the ages of 25 and 35?to America for a six-month, in-depth, practical introduction to the professional and ethical standards of the U.S. print media. Among those who have succeeded are Fellows who have become top editors and newsroom managers, founders of news outlets and public relation firms, section heads, bureau chiefs, chief or foreign correspondents, and university professors. Many have received Fulbright, Neiman, Reuters and Yale World Fellowships as well as Chevening Scholarships, and others have received awards, prizes, overseas assignments and/or found jobs outside of their home country. Fellows arrive in Washington, DC, for a two-week group orientation before they start as staff reporters, one per host, in newsrooms across the United States. Usually assigned to the city desk to cover local news and features, Fellows may rotate among other sections?arts, business, editorial features, online, etc. With the support and commitment of our host publications, Fellows can enter fully into daily newsroom activities. Guided by talented host reporters and editors, they are able to learn firsthand the practical realities and influential role of journalism in this country. Of the many training programs available to journalists, the Alfred Friendly Press Fellowships is the only one to offer a non-academic, long-term, hands-on experience in a single newsroom. The late Alfred Friendly, a Pulitzer Prize winning reporter and former managing editor of The Washington Post, believed that working side by side with reporters and editors is the best way to absorb the practical realities of journalism in this country and the instrumental role it plays in our society. Alfred Friendly set the following three primary objectives for the fellowship program: Enable Fellows to gain a practical understanding of the function and significance of the free press in American society. Provide Fellows with experience in reporting, writing, and editing that will enhance future professional performance. Foster continuing ties between free press institutions and journalists in the United States and their counterparts in other countries. Criteria of Eligibility An excellent command of both written and spoken English as all activities are conducted in English; At least three years of professional experience as a journalist in the print media; Current employment as a journalist with an independent print media organization in the country of citizenship; Early to mid-career status; A demonstrated personal commitment to a career in journalism in the home country. 2.
Prijava ispita nije uključena u cenu priprema.

This year, ONA has introduced changes to acknowledge the role of investigative journalism, development of emerging platforms and achievements at the collegiate level, as well as a new site that streamlines the entry experience and judging process. Eight awards now come with a total of $33,000 in prize money, courtesy of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and the Gannett Foundation, which also is supporting innovative investigative work with two new $2,500 awards. The newest category honors Outstanding Use of Emerging Platforms, achievement by an organization in the use of devices such as smart phones, eReaders and tablets to tell a story and serve a community. To better reflect work being produced by future journalists, students may now enter in three categories ? Multimedia Feature Presentation, Outstanding Use of Digital Technologies on the Web and Online Video. "Our goal is to recognize efforts that are at the intersection of journalism and technology, including news innovations that are flowing on to new platforms," said Awards Committee Chair Anthony Moor, Lead Local Editor, Yahoo!. "Judges will also be instructed to pay closer attention to how entrants use social tools to gather and disseminate news." The OJAs are the only comprehensive set of journalism prizes honoring excellence in digital journalism, administered by ONA and its academic partner, the University of Miami's School of Communication.Past winners have included major media, international and independent sites and individuals producing innovative work in multimedia storytelling. Following tradition, this year's honorees will be announced on the final night of ONA10, the Online News Association Conference and Awards Banquet, Oct. 28-30, in Washington, D.C. In August, a panel of industry-leading journalists and new media professionals judge finalists and select winners at the University of Miami under the auspices of the School of Communication. This year, the OJA entry process is provided by mBLAST, the lead in media and marketing relationship management, featuring mBLAST's Awards Management solution. What is the applicant's potential for participating in the Institute's collegial life and outreach efforts? Fellowship Activities Fellows contribute to the collegial life of the Institute by presenting their work and participating in workshops, conferences, and other events. The Institute relies on Senior Fellows to provide in-house expertise via the media and other public forums. In these ways, Fellows play a major role in the Institute's mission of promoting research and public education on the peaceful resolution of international conflict. To serve as collegial and intellectual resources within the Institute, Fellows must be in residence. Extensive fieldwork or archival research at other locations cannot be supported. In certain cases, the Institute may support limited travel when it is essential to the research project. The Institute favors applicants who propose projects that can be carried out primarily in the Washington Metropolitan area. Fellowship Products In keeping with its legislative mandate to support "scholarly inquiry and other appropriate forms of communication," the Jennings Randolph Program invites proposals that would produce Institute publications. The editorial staff of the Institute works closely with Fellows to develope manuscripts for consideration by the Institute Press or for publication as Institute reports. Fellowship products may include the following: Books or monographs published by USIP Press; Peaceworks reports or Special reports published by the Institute; Articles for professional or academic journals; Op-eds and articles for newspapers or magazines; Demonstrations or simulations; Teaching curricula; Lectures, workshops, seminars, symposia, or other public speaking. The Institute will provide coverage of 80% of health premiums for the Fellow and his/her eligible dependents, with a cap of $500 per month. The Institute will also cover travel to and from Washington, D.C., for Fellows and their dependents. Each Fellows is provided with a part-time research assistant during his/her fellowship. The Institute does not provide housing in Washington D.C., but it provides information on housing, schools, and daycare. Fellows are expected to be at the Institute and participate in the daily life of the Institute. Fellows are expected to devote full attention to their fellowship work in order to complete their projects within the period of residency. The Institute requires first right of review for manuscripts produced as a result of fellowship support. An Institute fellowship may not be deferred or combined with any other major award. Duration of Fellowship Fellowships are usually awarded for 10 months beginning in October. Shorter-term residencies are also available. Components of a Successful Proposal There is no single formula for preparing a sound proposal. However, many successful applications for USIP Jennings Randolph Senior Fellowships have certain elements in common. These elements are outlined in the document attached below.
