  3. More than 600 million young people live in fragile and conflict-affected states, and in many fragile countries, more than 60% of the population is under the age of 25, making youth the largest group that experiences the impact of fragility and conflict. Young people represent the largest youth demographic the world has ever seen and hold enormous potential to create peace in their communities. Evidence has shown that sustainable peacebuilding comes from the bottom-up. While youth are often characterised as passive recipients of peacebuilding, they must be recognised as active peacebuilders who are able to focus their efforts on safeguarding, stimulating, facilitating, and creating the space for societies to develop resilient capacities for self-organisation. The One Young World Peace Ambassador Scholarship, delivered in partnership with the European Commission, aims to empower young people to build more cohesive and peaceful societies. Scholarship recipients will participate in the One Young World Summit 2022, which will see 2,000 young leaders from 190+ countries descend on Manchester for the global forum for young leaders. During the Summit, delegates will present and debate solutions to our time’s most pressing issues alongside senior leaders. Scholarship recipients will join a community of over 200 Peace Ambassadors who have participated in the programme since 2017. The 2022 Peace Ambassador Programme will have a focus on the role of disinformation in fuelling hate speech, conflict and violent extremism. Peace Ambassador Programme Benefits: Participants' voices will be amplified enabling them to shape the policies that affect them most. Increased visibility of young leaders contributing to Peace and P/CVE in their communities. Participants will foster dialogue around the key theme of peacebuilding. Recipients will learn more about the European Union and its institutions and their role in promoting peace and fostering respect for fundamental rights and freedoms. Peace Ambassadors will receive*: Access to the One Young World Summit which takes place 5 - 8 September 2022 in Manchester, United Kingdom. Roundtrip travel to Manchester and back to the country of origin. Hotel accommodation for the duration of the Summit. 10. The Public Diplomacy Section of the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade is pleased to announce that we are now accepting applications from citizens of Serbia for participation in the prestigious Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program for the 2023-24 academic year. This is a competitive, worldwide competition. If you are interested in broadening your perspectives, becoming a global leader, and giving back to Serbian society upon your return, the Humphrey Fellowship is for you. The Humphrey Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and supported in its implementation by the Institute of International Education. Over 6,000 Fellows representing 162 countries have participated in the program since its inception in 1978. That has included 20 Serbians in the past decade. Successful candidates are accomplished, young, mid-career professionals in leadership positions who have a demonstrated commitment to public service and have the potential for further advancement in their fields. Candidates should be interested in strengthening their leadership skills through a mutual exchange of knowledge and views with the Americans and with Fellows from other countries they meet during this program about issues of common concern. Practical experience in the U.S. gained through this program, plus greater familiarity with American society and culture, will provide Humphrey Fellows with the basis for lasting, productive ties with their American counterparts in the years to come. PROFESSIONAL FIELDS The Humphrey Fellowship is granted competitively to public and private sector candidates from Serbia with strong leadership potential and a commitment to service who are focused on the following fields: Economic Development. Public Policy Analysis and Public Administration. Technology Policy and Management. Law and Human Rights. Trafficking in Persons Policy & Prevention. Agricultural and Rural Development. Natural Resources, Environmental Policy, and Climate Change. Urban and Regional Planning Public Health Policy and Management Higher Education Administration THE HUMPHREY PROGRAM EXPERIENCE The yearlong Fellowship offers valuable opportunities for non-degree graduate level university study, leadership development, networking, and substantive professional collaboration with U.S. counterparts through practical work experience. The freedom from the requirements necessary to obtain a degree gives each Fellow greater flexibility to pursue a self-directed, individualized program. Though Humphrey Fellows are hosted at American universities, we would like to stress that this is a professional, non-academic exchange program. Certain universities will host Fellows in the same field of interest, so candidates are unable to request placement at particular academic institutions. Humphrey Fellows may not transfer from non-degree to degree status at their host university under any circumstances. Beyond the graduate level courses, professional enrichment activities include participation in conferences, training programs, site visits, and a “professional affiliation,” i.e., practical job experience on a full-time basis in an American work environment for a minimum of six weeks. Early in the academic year, with assistance from the Humphrey coordinator and faculty advisors at the university, each Fellow will develop a detailed plan of practical professional activities geared toward his/her Humphrey Program objectives. During the year, Fellows both pursue their individual program goals and work closely with their Humphrey colleagues in workshops and seminars. The Program also encourages Fellows to travel away from their host campus to learn more about American culture and to network with their American peers. BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Appropriate candidates are young, mid-career professionals in leadership positions in either the public and private sector who have demonstrated a commitment to public service and the potential for further advancement. We strongly encourage both men and women to apply, as well as persons with disabilities and individuals from other underserved groups. The technical eligibility requirements are: Serbian citizenship and eligibility to obtain a U.S. visa. An undergraduate university degree. A minimum of five years of full-time, professional experience in the relevant field by June 2023. Limited or no prior experience in the United States. Demonstrated leadership qualities. A record of public service in the community. Proficiency* in written and spoken English. Candidates will normally have a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 525 (paper-based) or 71 (internet-based). If you have taken a TOEFL exams in the past, scores are valid for two years. The TOEFL exam is not a requirement at the time of application. Candidates who pass the interview will receive the instructions how to register for the TOEFL exam. * Note: In addition to the pre-academic language training traditionally available to all selected candidates, the Humphrey Program offers Long-Term English (LTE) language training opportunities to facilitate participation of individuals who might lack sufficiently advanced English language skills at the time of application. Candidates for LTE typically have TOEFL scores in the 440-500 range (paper-based test) or 42-61 (internet-based test). LTE participants will travel to the U.S early for intensive language training lasting 20-25 weeks to improve their English skills before transitioning to their host university campuses at the start of the 2020-21 academic year. Please be aware that the following individuals are ineligible to apply for the Humphrey Program: Recent university graduates (even if they now hold significant positions in their organizations); University teachers or academic researchers with no management responsibilities; Individuals who have attended a graduate school in the United States for one academic year or more during the seven years prior to August 2023; Individuals with U.S. in-country experience of any kind lasting more than six months during the five years prior to August 2023; Individuals with dual U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent resident status may not apply to the program; they are ineligible for a J visa; Local employees of U.S. Missions abroad who work for the U.S. Department of State and members of their families as well as individuals who work for or are otherwise associated with an organization that is responsible for nominating or selecting individuals for participation in any Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) exchange program are ineligible for grants during the period of their employment and for one year following the termination of employment. 11. N.C. State may have found a solution to its problems in the post. Kevin Keatts got a big man in the form of former Utah forward Dusan Mahorcic. Mahorcic (6-10, 227) committed to the Wolfpack on Monday, officially posting the announcement on social media. Mahorcic, a native of Serbia, averaged 5.5 points per game for the Utes in 2021-22, appearing in 13 games. On Jan. 29, he was suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules and never returned to the team. He previously played at Illinois State. In Raleigh, Mahorcic will fill a void in the post following the departures of Manny Bates and Jaylon Gibson. They are two of four Wolfpack players who have entered the transfer portal this off season. Last month, Keatts added two players from the portal, guards Jack Clark and Jarkel Joiner. Mahorcic will join post players Ebenezer Dowuona and Greg Gantt on the N.C. State roster. Guards Terquavion Smith and Dereon Seabron entered their names in the NBA draft, but could both return to school. 12. On Friday, Craig Smith and his Runnin' Utes program added two commits to their class. While the second one was celebrated locally as the Utes added for BYU big man Gavin Baxter as a walk-on, the first commit was actually being a European player, Serbian forward Luka Tarlac, who committed to Utah as part of its 2022 recruiting class, according to reports from both Eurohopes and Balkan Prospects. Tarlac was a teammate of current Utah hooper, Lazar Stefanovic. Tarlac is a 6-foot-8 wing/forward that played this past season for Dunav SB in Serbian KLS — the Basketball League of Serbia — and averaged 8.1 points and 2.8 rebounds per game while shooting 54% from the field and 34% from 3-point range. Prior to his time with Dunay SB, Tarlac played with Partizan NIS U19 in 2019-20, where he averaged 12.8 points and 5.6 rebounds in five games. According to Eurospects.com, here is a brief scouting report from a 2020 tournament on Tarlac: Glue guy of the team, doing the work on the defensive end. Luka has elite defensive instincts, especially good rotations and help from the weak side, resulting in some great blocks. Great hips and can drop low, has good reactions and great lateral movement. Versatile defender, capable of guarding most players on perimeter. Maybe he was too impatient in some on-ball defense situations and going directly for a steal and not waiting and defending the opponent cleanly. This resulted in him losing the balance and the offensive player getting past him but otherwise very good on ball defense. Has good footwork and can go around the screens fluidly. Had a minor offensive role in this tournament, made some good drives but hasn’t shot many shots from distance so hard to evaluate his offense. In past tournaments he was a pretty poor shooter and probably still needs to put more work on his shot and become a better, more consistent shooter and offensive player overall. For Utah and their efforts to rebuild the roster, adding athleticism and size was important. At 6-foot-8, Tarlac has tremendous size for a versatile wing player. As a defensive player, he'll be able to defend multiple positions and add to the matchup capabilities of Utah's defensive effort. Tarlac joins the Utes other four in the class in big men Keba Keita and Gavin Baxter, as well as wings/guards Wilguens Exacte and Mike Saunders. These five players are set to join the program in the coming weeks. With Tarlac's commitment, Utah still has two scholarship spots remaining in their final recruiting efforts. https://247sports.com/Article/Utah-basketball-has-added-Serbian-Luka-Tarlac-to-their-2022-recruiting-class-186951214/

  18. Still in the middle of building his 2022-23 roster, Arizona coach Tommy Lloyd did a little foundational work Tuesday. In Serbian wing Filip Borovicanin, who signed a letter-of-intent to play for the Wildcats next season, Lloyd is bringing in another key to his uptempo, ball-screen oriented offense: A big, high-IQ guard who is equally comfortable scoring and passing. “I think he’s a guy that can really shoot from the perimeter, he’s comfortable from midrange and finishing inside,” Lloyd said Tuesday during a brief interview to discuss his second 2022 signee. “He’s also comfortable handling the ball in ball-screen situations, and (in) making passes and reads. “I love guys that are comfortable handling the ball and making decisions, and having multiple ball-handlers. He definitely falls in that category.” Lloyd said he started recruiting Borovicanin about a year ago. The 6-foot-8-inch, 180-pound Serbian had already blown up regionally in March 2020, when he averaged 34.6 points a game in a European EYBL event, and he drew praise from scouting service SerbiaHoop a year later despite not playing for a major club program. “He is definitely a player to keep an eye on,” SerbiaHoop tweeted in March 2021. “Well sized for a guard standing at 6-7 with a body that is still far from developed. Great skills, play with ease, high level potential.” Borovicanin played the 2021-22 season for Serbian third-division club KK Beko in his hometown of Belgrade. He averaged 20 points, nine rebounds and 4.4 assists per game, according to Balkan Prospects. Along the way, Borovicanin also received offers from Texas Tech and Xavier, pitting Lloyd against former UA coach Sean Miller. He also had the option to turn professional in Europe. 21. CISRUL PhD Studentships to start in October 2022 Application deadline 12 noon (UTC) on 15 May 2022 The Centre for Citizenship, Civil Society, and Rule of Law (CISRUL) studies the life in the world of political concepts. The interdisciplinary Centre examines how political principles function within and beyond the contemporary West. Concepts such as citizenship, civil society, and the rule of law are used as often by journalists, social movements, artists and policymakers as by scholars. CISRUL brings together an extraordinary range of researchers, including PhD students, to study these and other political principles, including democracy, human rights and pluralism. We consider how they have been fostered historically, debated philosophically and in politics, fought over by social movements, codified in law, transmitted through education and the media, and lived out in everyday life. CISRUL supports a vigorous community of PhD students, who take a leading role in our many activities. Each year, CISRUL provides funding for its PhDs to design and host a major international conference on a topic proposed by them. Recent conferences were on Conceptualizing Political (2019) and Conceptualizing Difference (2021) and the next in May 2022 is on Conceptualizing Community. You may apply for CISRUL funding for a PhD in Law, History, Philosophy, Divinity or Education, or in one of the Modern Languages or in English or Film Studies. If your research is interdisciplinary or sits within another discipline such as anthropology, sociology or politics, you can instead apply to the PhD programme in Citizenship, Civil Society and Rule of Law. Our supervisors are listed here. CISRUL studentships include tuition fees (home or overseas) partial maintenance (£6000/year) an allowance for research and conference travel (£1000/year) generous funding to design and host workshops and/or conferences at CISRUL. Applicants must hold or be close to completing a postgraduate Masters degree in a relevant field. In most cases, we will be looking for the equivalent of a First Class or Distinction in the Masters, especially in the dissertation. Applicants must also satisfy the University’s English language requirements. If you do not already have the appropriate certification, any offer will be conditional on securing this prior to commencing study. Our criteria for selection are: Quality of application (this includes the 1000-word research proposal and the candidate’s academic record and/or cognate experience). Closeness of fit to CISRUL interests. The best way of gauging your closeness of fit is by reviewing our previous and upcoming events and our publications.
