We invite young researchers from all fields of mathematics to join one of the research teams in the Institute of Mathematics of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague or Brno (http://www.math.cas.cz/). It is a two-year full-time postdoc position. Specialists in numerical analysis are especially welcome. Applicants must either have completed their PhD after October 1, 2019 (justified exceptions apply), or if they have not obtained their PhD yet, produce evidence that they will defend their thesis before October 1, 2021. The School of Computational Science and Engineering (CSE) at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for the Edenfield Early Career Professorship at the Assistant Professor level (tenure-track). The research unit NUMA, Department of Computer Science, invites applications for a full-time faculty position. The unit covers many aspects of numerics, incl. approximation theory, numerical integration, numerical (multi)linear algebra, numerical PDEs, uncertainty quantification, optimization and control, discrete optimization and scheduling, data science, HPC and applied numerical mathematics. The recent surge in advanced techniques for data acquisition gives rise to computational tasks of a complexity beyond numerical simulation as integrating measurement data in complex models requires specific numerical algorithms. In the simplest setting, finding the "best" model parameters given some measurement data is an optimization problem. However, demands of practical applications often go far beyond this optimization: one can, for instance, also be interested in quantifying the uncertainty on the resulting optimum, the remaining modeling error with respect to the physical system, or the evolution of the model as a function of time. The new faculty position aims to strengthen NUMA's position in scientific computing towards a data rich environment. Nebraska Head Coach Pablo Morales announced the addition of Serbian Milica Opacic to the Husker swimming and diving program on Friday, June 25. "Milica's signing enhances an already outstanding recruiting class that we will be welcoming this fall, while further extending the global reach of our recruiting efforts," Morales said. "Milica is undoubtedly a high-level student-athlete to begin with, but to emerge from the pandemic with career-best results shows her high character and passion for her sport, which makes her a great fit for Nebraska." Opacic, who was ranked as the No. 156 recruit in the 2020 class by SwimCloud, delayed her enrollment for a year because of the complications caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020-21, the incoming freshman from Novi Sad continued to put up solid times. At the 2020 Serbian Long Course Junior Championships in Belgrade in December, she took three silver medals, including the 50-meter butterfly (27.81), the 100 fly (1:01.19), the 100 freestyle (58.08). On March 12, she notched a career-best time of 1:00.82 in the 100-meter fly at the Serbian Open. The next day, she added a career-best 57.82 in the 100 free. She also owns a career-best time of 27.45 in the 50-meter fly. Priprema za SAT General, ispit potreban za upis koledža i univerziteta u Americi i na drugim lokacijama u svetu, počinje u utorak, 22. juna 2021. godine i traje osam nedelja. Ovaj termin priprema prilagođen je polaganju testa u avgustu 2021. godine, ali kandidati mogu da ga iskoriste i za kasnije termine. Tokom svake sedmice predavanja se održavaju utorkom i četvrtkom isključivo online po dva sata, a u kalendar će zbog obima rada biti dodato i nekoliko termina drugim danima. Tokom priprema organizuju se simulacije testa koje će naši predavači oceniti i objasniti kandidatima koje se greške moraju ispraviti kako bi se poboljšao rezultat. The French Institutes for Advanced Study Fellowship Programme offers 10-month fellowships in the five Institutes of Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier and Nantes. It welcomes applications from high-level international scholars and scientists primarily in the fields of the social sciences and the humanities (SSH). For the 2022-2023 academic year, FIAS offers 28 fellowship positions: 17 in Paris, 4 in Marseille, 3 in Montpellier and 4 in Nantes. The call is open to all disciplines in the SSH and all research fields. Research projects from other sciences that propose a transversal dialogue with SSH are also eligible. Some of the IAS have scientific priorities they will focus on more specifically. The FIAS fellows will benefit from the support and conducive scientific environment offered by the IAS, in an interdisciplinary cohort of fellows and in close relation to the local research potential. If you are interested in broadening your perspectives, becoming a global leader, and giving back to Serbian society upon your return, the Humphrey Fellowship is for you. The Humphrey Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and supported in its implementation by the Institute of International Education. Igor Marjanović will become the William Ward Watkin Dean of Rice Architecture on July 1. Marjanović comes to Rice from Washington University in St. Louis, where he is the JoAnne Stolaroff Cotsen Professor and chair of undergraduate architecture in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts. “I am honored and humbled by this opportunity to join the Rice Architecture faculty, whom I’ve always admired for their distinctly generalist approach that integrates theory and practice and the making of buildings with the making of books,” Marjanović said. “As a designer and scholar myself, I am inspired by that kind of synthetic thinking, which is so needed in our moment of deep political, social and cultural fragmentation.” “Igor is a great addition to Rice and to the university’s school of architecture,” said Rice Provost Reginald DesRoches. “He is an accomplished designer and scholar who brings great vision, endless energy and a collaborative spirit to the position.” “I am delighted we found a dean of such accomplishment and breadth of intellectual engagements, who will build on the extraordinary reputation of our school of architecture,” said Rice President David Leebron. “He will be a valuable addition to our leadership team, bringing an ideal combination of urban focus and global perspective.” Trained as an architect at the University of Belgrade in his native Serbia (then Yugoslavia), Marjanović completed his undergraduate thesis at the Moscow Architectural Institute. Marjanović noted his research integrates the teaching of studio and theory with historical scholarship on architectural pedagogy, practice and identity formation, examining the role of drawings, exhibitions and publications in the emergence of international architectural culture. As program chair at Washington University, he created a distinct academic vision that integrated architectural and liberal arts education, recruiting diverse students and faculty and demonstrating a commitment to equity and inclusion as the foundation of social transformation and academic distinction. Marjanović received the 2009 American Institute of Architects Education Honor Award for his Florence studio, “Disegno: Encounters in Public Space,” which advances the medium of drawing as a powerful tool to engage the contemporary refugee crisis, global migration and decolonization. His collaborative approach to research has led to such critically acclaimed books as “Marina City: Bertrand Goldberg’s Urban Vision” and the exhibition “Drawing Ambience: Alvin Boyarsky and the Architectural Association,” which debuted at the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum in St. Louis and the RISD Museum in Providence, Rhode Island, before traveling internationally, most recently to the Jut Art Museum in Taipei, Taiwan. Marjanović’s most recent book is “The Evolving Project: The Journal of Architectural Education and the Expansion of Scholarship,” a co-edited volume that tells the story of postwar architectural pedagogy as an intellectual platform that engaged the larger social, cultural and political issues of its time. “As architecture schools worldwide confront critical issues of globalization and climate change, Marjanović values the city of Houston and its diversity, culture and industry as an active resource and for its potential for new forms of engagement, design research and practice in architecture,” Finley said. High school senior and tennis scholarship recruit Andjela Vukcevic from Serbia is looking forward to beginning her undergraduate studies this fall at Rockhurst University in Missouri. Like other international students studying at U.S. colleges, she will need to report to the school's designated school official, or DSO, to maintain her immigration status. Every school certified by the U.S. government's Student and Exchange Visitor Program to enroll international students has at least one staff member who serves in the DSO role. "My international education consultant has advised me to keep in close touch with my DSO," Vukcevic says. What Is a DSO? Designated school officials serve as liaisons between international students, the school and the U.S. government. DSOs issue necessary immigration forms, guide students through the process of studying in the U.S., maintain records in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System, known as SEVIS, and more. "Students coming to the U.S. through the Student and Exchange Visitor Program to study at an SEVP-certified school generally must apply for either an F or M visa with the U.S. Department of State," Jonathan Moor, public affairs specialist with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the Department of Homeland Security, wrote in an email. Typically, prospective international students apply for an F-1 academic student visa or M-1 vocational student visa at a U.S. embassy or consular office in their home country. To do so, they need a Form I-20, Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status, a key document that is issued by their university's DSO and normally physically mailed to students. However, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, DSOs are allowed to email a student a scanned copy of the I-20, Moor says. "ICE has extended the guidance allowing electronic issuance of the Form I-20 through the duration of the 2021-2022 academic year," Moor says. This means DSOs can send the I-20 -- a form used throughout an international student's studies in the U.S. -- via student emails listed in SEVIS, or if the student is a minor, to his or her parent or legal guardian, he says. Moor says international students seeking to defer their program start date listed on their I-20, "should speak with their designated school official as soon as possible to receive an updated Form I-20 with a new program start date." Utah State head men's tennis coach Aaron Paajanen has announced the signing of Bodin Zarkovic, who will join the team this fall. A native of Belgrade, Serbia, Zarkovic comes to Utah State after two seasons at Minnesota. In his time with the Gophers, he posted an overall doubles record of 12-15, while going 15-9 in singles action. Zarkovic attended Sportska Gimnazija. He was a four-time Serbian National Championship winner in the U12, U14, U16, and U18 age groups, and was also a senior national champion for Serbia. "We are really looking forward to Bodin's arrival in Logan. He is a very talented player with big goals and we definitely expect him to make an immediate impact for us as an Aggie," Paajanen said. "Bodin was fortunate to spend the last couple of season at Minnesota playing for coach (Geoff) Young, so we are confident the invaluable experiences he had there will only make us better as a team." The Oregon Ducks knew they were going to lose another player to the NCAA Transfer Portal, but now we know they'll be staying in the Pac-12. On Tuesday, Max Torres of Ducks Digest reported that Angela Dugalic intends to transfer to UCLA. The forward will be eligible to play immediately after NCAA changed its guidelines that now permit players to play without a one-year transfer penalty. She is currently overseas in Serbia trying to earn a spot on the Serbian senior national team with hopes of competing in the 2020 Olympics. As a true freshman, Dugalic averaged 3.4 points and 4.0 rebounds in 12.2 minutes over 24 games, shooting 42.4% from the field. Dugalic had the best game of her career against UCLA on February 18th with 13 points and nine rebounds. Dugalic joined Te-Hina Paopao, Maddie Scherr, Kylee Watson, and Sydney Parrish as part of Kelly Graves' 2020 recruiting class that consisted of five-star recruits. Dugalic choosing UCLA isn't a huge surprise after she entered the transfer portal on May 3rd. UCLA and Oregon were her the final two schools Dugalic was choosing between-- she committed to Oregon before visiting UCLA. She is the fourth player to transfer from the Ducks this offseason, joining guards Taylor Chavez, Jaz Shelley and Taylor Mikesell. Casper College volleyball player Jana Gilic has signed on with Florida Southern College in Lakeland. Gilic was named a 2nd team junior college All-American this past season and it's been 12 years since a T-Bird player has earned that designation. In her sophomore season, Gilic rang up 271 kills compared to 213 in her freshman season. The native of Serbia has displayed improvement across the board and was also named the Region IX North player of the year. Casper College posted a record of 16-12 in 2021 The 6-1 middle hitter will be joining a Florida Southern volleyball program that played just 2 matches last season due to the pandemic. They're a Division II school that plays in the Sunshine State Conference.
