2009-2010 Think Beyond the Borders - Video Competition

Who can Enter

The Think Beyond The Borders video contest is open to all students outside of the United States interested in studying in the U.S.A. or be an international student.

Contest Rules

Please read the directions carefully.

  • You must live outside the U.S. or be an international student at one the participating colleges in the U.S.
  • The scholarships can only be used at participating community colleges in the U.S. For a full list of colleges click here.
  • Funds can only be used for tuition and will be credited directly to the school.
  • First place wins $5,000. Second Place $3,000. Third Place $1,000.
  • Each participant or group may submit as many videos as they like. Each video is eligible to win one prize, however the content should be different for each video.
  • The winner will be chosen by a panel of judges. The judges will consider the popularity of the video, so make sure to have your friends visit your Youtube video page and hit the "Like" button to vote for you and post a comment.

How to Enter

  • Create a video lasting no more than three minutes in length, regarding how colleges in the U.S. can market to students in your country. The three minutes includes opening and closing credits if your video contains such elements.
  • Go to Youtube and upload your video in the form of a video response. Then submit an e-mail to email@destinationca.org with the following information: Name: The YouTube URL for your video: Where you are from:
  • You may also submit your video by emailing tbb@destinationca.org
  • Once your video has been uploaded you will have been officially entered into the contest. If for any reason you would like your video to be taken down, you can do so at anytime.

Video Criteria

  • Create a video no more than three minutes in length (including opening and closing credits, if any) regarding how colleges in the U.S. can market to students in your country.
  • In a creative way, your video needs to answer one or more of the following questions.
    • What is the most creative way to tell students in your country about opportunities to study abroad in the U.S.?
    • What are students in your country interested in? How can U.S. colleges talk to students in your country about these interests?
    • How can American colleges reach students in your country? E-mail? Television? Internet? Facebook? Other Social media sites? How do you and your friends communicate and share?
    • What is the best way for American colleges to get their name out to students in your country? What Web sites do you visit? What do you read? How can U.S. colleges talk to you and your friends?

    [*]You can choose real life, documentary, animation, and music - anything you can imagine.[*]Remember, the goal of this competition is to help students around the world and U.S. colleges to Think Beyond The Borders and find new and creative ways to communicate.[*]Your video needs to contain english subtitles if you are speaking in a different language.

Videos will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Creativity
  • Concept
  • Quality
  • Overall impact
