Offer Description

The Institute for Historical Studies of the Science and Research Centre Koper invites you to participate in the recruitment for the position of assistant doctoral student under the ERC Advanced Grant " Cold War Europe Beyond Borders. A Transnational History of Cross-Border Practices in the Alps-Adriatic area from World War II to the present.” (OPEN BORDERS, no. 101054963, Principal Investigator: Borut Klabjan, PhD).

Scope of work:

  • participation in meetings and seminars of the research team (in person/on-line);
  • conducting qualitative field research in selected regions of Slovenia, Italy, Croatia, Austria, independently and together with the research team;
  • individual archival queries in indicated archives (depending on the research region);
  • preparation of a doctoral dissertation within 4 years and no later than 31.12.2027;
  • joint analysis of collected research data;
  • dissemination of research results (participation in scientific conferences, preparation of partial publications - articles, participation in events promoting the research, preparation of research notes).

Education Level Master Degree or equivalent

Skills/Qualifications

  • master's degree;
  • experience in conducting field and archival research;
  • excellent knowledge of English language, knowledge of Slovene, Italian and/or German and Croatian is an additional advantage of the candidate;
  • strong motivation for scientific work and preparation of a doctoral dissertation;
  • willingness to engage in team work.

Benefits

Starting date: 1 October 2023

Form of employment:

  • full-time employment contract (research assistant-PhD student position)
  • duration of employment: 48 months (in exceptional cases the contract may be extended until the end of the project 31. 12. 2027)

The amount of remuneration: 36 salary grade (currently amounts to 1.815,99 EUR/month gross), this amount will be reduced by relevant contributions.

During the remaining period of education at the Doctoral School, the PhD student will receive a scholarship in the amount specified in the law.

Required documents:

  • motivation letter (up to 2 A4 pages),
  • an academic curriculum vitae (up to 2 A4 pages),
  • list of publications and academic accomplishments,
  • a copy of the master’s degree diploma or a certificate from the place of education about obtaining a master's degree (in the case of foreigners – an equivalent document), or a certificate of admission to the defence that will take place before October 1, 2023,
