Germany: Research Assistant Position, WIAS Berlin

Recommended Posts

The Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS) is an institute of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (FVB). The FVB comprises seven non-university research institutes in Berlin which are funded by the federal and state governments. The research institutes belong to the Leibniz Association.

WIAS invites applications for a Research Assistant position (f/m/d) (Ref. 24/01) in the Research Group "Interacting Random Systems" (Head: Prof. Dr. W. Konig) starting as soon as possible.  The task is to analyze stochastic models for the dynamics and statics of large interacting systems to support and complement the research directions in the group. We would like the successful candidate to develop contacts to other groups in the Institute. The Institute would support the acquisition of experience with third-party funding, teaching and research supervision in preparation for a professorship.

We are looking for: A completed scientific university degree and a Ph.D.  (or equivalent experience) in mathematics or a closely related field is required. Experience with some of the following topics will strengthen your application: statistical physics; critical phenomena; interacting point and particle processes; random media; random operators; random graphs with structure. Knowledge of the theory of large deviations and variational analysis would also be advantageous.

Please direct scientific queries to Professor Dr. W. Konig (Wolfgang.Koenig@wias-berlin.de). The appointment is initially limited for two years. The salary is according to the German TVoD scale.

Please upload complete application documents including a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a short research statement (max. 2 pages) and photocopies of relevant certificates as soon as possible and no later than 22.03.2024 via our online job-application facility (https://short.sg/j/41760876) using the button 'Apply online' (https://short.sg/a/41760876).
