Italy: Postdoc Position, Numerical Analysis

Recommended Posts

A postdoctoral position in numerical analysis at Universita di Catania has been advertised at
https://www.unict.it/it/bandi/ricerca-e-trasferimento-tecnologico/dipartimento-di-matematica-e-informatica-selezione-7

The duration of the contract is 12 months with possible renewing. The deadline for applications is 29th April 2024. This contract is part of the PRIN 2022 project "Efficient numerical schemes and optimal control methods for time-dependent partial differential equations", in collaboration with the University of Ferrara (Walter Boscheri, PI), Verona (Giacomo Albi) and Trento (Ilya Peshkov).

The project aims to develop a fourth-order accurate numerical method for solving the Navier-Stokes equations in moving domains, with the potential for extending its accuracy to higher orders. This method adopts a monolithic approach, solving the equations simultaneously and resulting in a large linear system at each time step. The numerical algorithm will be implemented on 3D parallel architectures, making extensive use of MPI and PETSc libraries. This method falls under the category of unfitted boundary methods, where the domain is immersed in a fixed grid and curved boundaries are handled using ghost-point techniques. Spatial multiscale effects, influenced by potential high curvature of the boundaries, will be addressed using a multigrid approach.
