ANNOUNCING A NEW ORGANIZATION! - CENTER FOR GLOBAL ADVANCEMENT OF COMMUNITY COLLEGES (CGACC)

A group of high-level international education specialists has established a critically needed membership organization—Center for Global Advancement of Community Colleges—to provide U.S. community colleges with new ways to achieve their objectives to become more internationally focused.

What is the Need? Higher education continues to experience institutional and economic challenges. In today's environment of budget cuts and eliminating programs, U.S. community colleges must make the best use of their limited resources to: (1)

ensure students graduate with the skills and abilities required to succeed in an ever-changing universal marketplace; and (2) provide administrators and faculty with cutting-edge tools for working effectively in an interdependent world community and

global economy.

Who are CGACC's Leaders? CGACC's Executive Team, Advisory Board, and Global Council*, comprised of experts and specialists with global higher education experience, offer the knowledge and capability to assist U.S. community colleges build, develop, and/or enhance their international programs, initiatives, and aspirations. *See www.cgacc.org for a list of people participating in each of these entities.

How Will CGACC Serve U.S. Community Colleges? CGACC is distinctively qualified to offer in-depth knowledge and strategies needed by community colleges to develop and/or enhance global endeavors, while simultaneously maximizing limited institutional funds. In this context, CGACC has the perspective and capability to facilitate student mobility (both international students coming to the United States and U.S. students going abroad), encourage global involvement by administrators and faculty, and forge stronger relationships between institutions in the U.S. and abroad.

CGACC initiatives include:

Publications—in print and web versions utilizing social media channels—designed to educate international students, advising centers, and consulate officers about

(a) the transfer process;

( b ) short-term certificate program options for international students;

( c ) intensive English programs available on-campus; and

(d) other elements of international student recruitment.

Initiatives designed to help college administrators prepare students for a global world.

Showcasing and promoting student, faculty, and administrator exchanges.

Data banks of experts and specialists knowledgeable in different aspects of internationalization.

A Resource Center with relevant and current information about grant programs and exchange opportunities offered by federal agencies, international educational organizations and associations.

Global Calendar of current and future meetings, workshops, seminars, and webinars.

Overall, CGACC will serve as a major resource for community college administrators, federal and state policymakers, and institutional leaders of national and international organizations. See CGACC's website www.cgacc.org for additional information or contact Judy Irwin by email (judy@cgacc.org) or phone (301-404-5304).

THE BUSINESS OF EDUCATIONAL CONSULTING

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

ISTANBUL – Hürriyet Daily News

Choosing a university can be an extremely overwhelming process under the best of circumstances. Pair that with the added stress of choosing a university on the other side of the world, and you wind up with countless parents and students seeking outside assistance to guide their decision-making processes. Many third-party agencies have therein found an extremely lucrative business: that of educational consulting.

"These agents … do not represent U.S. universities equitably," Regional Educational Advising Coordinator for the U.S. State Department-supported EducationUSA network, Amy McGoldrick, said. Where can college-bound students and their parents safely seek advice? McGoldrick advises... students seeking to pursue higher education in the U.S. to take advantage of the free advising services offered by EducationUSA centers: www.EducationUSA.state.gov
