Freelance video journalists who cover international news and current affairs can apply for an award.

The Rory Peck Awards, sponsored by Sony International, are billed as the only awards aimed at honoring freelance cameramen and women. The Rory Peck Trust was established in 1995, two years after freelance cameraman Rory Peck was killed while filming in Moscow.

There are four awards: news, features, the Sony Professional Impact Award and the Martin Adler Prize, a non-competitive prize awarded to a freelancer who has played a vital part in the telling of a significant news story.

In 2010, awards went to Najibullah Quraishi for a story called "Behind Enemy Lines" shot in Afghanistan and Arturo Perez, who lives and works in Ciudad Juarez, reporting on the bloody drugs war that has gripped his city.

Entries must have had their first broadcast (TV, agency feed, recognized online news publisher) between August 1 2010 and May 31, 2011. The deadline for entries is June 6.
