Assistant Professor of Central/Eastern European History, University of Wisconsin, Madison

The Department of History at the UW-Madison invites applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position of Assistant Professor of Central/Eastern European History, 1815 to the present--with a focus on the territories of the former Hapsburg Empire and/or Poland. Appointment to begin August 2013.

Applicants should hold a doctorate or anticipate its completion by the start of the appointment. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of creativity and excellence in their field and have demonstrated competence in at least two languages from the region. The successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and to participate in the rich intellectual life of the History Department and related area studies centers on campus.

If the writing sample forms part of a larger book manuscript or dissertation, please include an abstract and table of contents or a statement of how the writing sample fits in with the larger project. For full consideration, complete applications must be received by November 1, 2012.
