Recommended Posts

The Department of Applied and Computational Mathematics and Statistics (ACMS) seeks to hire a tenured or tenure-track faculty member with research expertise in applied mathematics or computational science.

The Department of Applied and Computational Mathematics and Statistics was formed in 2010 within Notre Dame’s College of Science. The department promotes research and teaching in applied mathematics, computational mathematics and applied statistics in an environment that fosters multidisciplinary collaborations. The founding members, who transferred from the Department of Mathematics, have research activities in mathematical biology, scientific computing, numerical analysis, and statistical bioinformatics. In 2011 and 2012, ACMS hired three assistant professors in statistics. The department offers undergraduate, masters and doctoral degrees.

The successful applicant must have a doctorate in applied mathematics, mathematics, or a closely related field, and a record of success in both research and teaching. All candidates with expertise in applied mathematics or computational science, including computational mathematics and computational biology, who also have a record of success in multidisciplinary team research, will be considered. An appointment at the tenured level will require significant accomplishment in independent, externally funded, research. The teaching load in ACMS is 3 courses per year. The position begins in August 2013. The evaluation of candidates will begin in December 2012.

Applications, including a cover letter, curriculum vitae and a completed AMS standard cover sheet, should be filed through MathJobs (www.MathJobs.org), specifically, https://www.mathjobs.org/jobs/jobs/4167. Applicants should also arrange for at least three letters of recommendation to be submitted through the MathJobs system. These letters should address the applicant's research accomplishments and supply evidence that the applicant has the ability to communicate articulately and teach effectively. For additional information about the position or ACMS, please contact the Department Chair, Steven Buechler, at buechler.1@nd.edu or visit http://acms.nd.edu. Notre Dame is an equal opportunity employer, and we particularly welcome applications from women and minority candidates.
