“MIT-Zaragoza Eastern and Central Europe Scholarship” 2013

 

Presentation and objectives

The Zaragoza Logistics Center currently provides a number of scholarships each year for students of the MIT-Zaragoza Master of Engineering in Logistics & Supply Chain Management (ZLOG) program.

 

Through ZLOG Eastern and Central Europe Scholarship, the Foundation hopes to attract outstanding future leaders from Eastern and Central European countries. Candidates will be expected to show extraordinary potential for leadership and professional success, bringing new vision and commitment to the area of Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

 

Coverage

The scholarship covers full tuition for the MIT-Zaragoza Master of Engineering in Logistics & Supply Chain Management (ZLOG) program, which amounts to €21,500 for a student of the academic year 2013-2014.

 

The scholarship will not include other costs such as living or travel expenses to Zaragoza or to Boston for the international exchange.

 

Eligibility

Scholarships are awarded only to students who have been admitted to the MIT-Zaragoza Master of Engineering in Logistics & Supply Chain Management (ZLOG) program through the Foundation’s regular admissions procedure.

 

Furthermore, the applicants should display exceptional academic achievement and distinctive personal accomplishment in addition to an interest in pursing a career in Logistics/Supply Chain Management.

 

To be eligible you must comply with the following criteria:

  • Granted admission to the MIT-Zaragoza Master of Engineering in Logistics & Supply Chain Management (ZLOG) program.

  • Completion of a four year undergraduate program equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree.

  • Fluency in English, competitive TOEFL score. Exceptions may be granted to individuals who have demonstrated evidence of advanced verbal and written proficiency in the English language.

  • Competitive GMAT score. Exceptions may be granted to individuals who have demonstrated strong professional and/or academic achievement in completing a college degree - including some quantitative training - and evidence of advanced verbal and written proficiency in the English language.

Application Process and Documents

Candidates must fulfil all of the above-mentioned requirements and submit one original copy of the following documents to the ZLC Financial Aid Office:

 

1. Application form

Each scholarship applicant will fill out the scholarship application form including the following: an essay stating their interests, qualifications, and related experience; a statement describing their economical situation and explaining their reasons for applying for the scholarship.

 

2. Income Statement

Copy of employment contact, last pay slip or other official document that can account for the last salary received. (Not applicable for applicants who are currently full-time students).

 

3. Copy of Passport

 

4. Admissions Letter

Copy of the admissions letter to the MIT-Zaragoza Master of Engineering in Logistics & Supply Chain Management (ZLOG) program.

Deadline

The deadline for the ZLOG Eastern and Central Europe Scholarship application is March 31st 2013. Early application is however encouraged. All supporting documentation to the application must be postmarked by the respective date listed above.

Incomplete applications will NOT be considered.

 

Selection criteria and process

Competition for the ZLOG scholarships is intense and highly competitive. The candidates will be chosen on the basis of the following criteria:

- Preference will be given to candidates with background or work experience in Logistics and Supply Chain Management. (25%)

- Financial need (20%)

- Academic merit as according to academic records (15%)

- Ability to make a significant contribution to the discipline of Logistics and Supply Chain Management, with a strong aptitude for analysis and a creative approach to defining and solving problems. (10%)

- Experience and interest in working in multicultural teams as according to resume. (10%)

- Demonstrated initiative and search for external financial aid opportunities (contacted the ZLC Financial Aid Office, individual search, other applications for scholarships and/or bank loans, etc.). (10%)

- Enthusiastic pursuit of self-improvement and a desire to be at the forefront in the creation and discovery of new knowledge. (10%)

 

Applicants will be notified by e-mail of the outcome and furthermore the scholarship holder will receive an award letter.

“MIT-Zaragoza Scholarships - Supporting Promising Professionals in Logistics and SCM”

2013

 

Presentation and Objectives

Zaragoza Logistics Center currently provides a number of scholarships each year for students of the MIT-Zaragoza Master of Engineering in Logistics & Supply Chain Management (ZLOG) program.

 

The objective with these scholarships is to assure financial aid for outstanding students and thereby help ensure that financial circumstances are no bar to the most promising candidates having access to the world-class education that we offer. Furthermore, in so doing we also create and promote an economic diversity in our classrooms.

 

Coverage

ZLC will award scholarships consisting of reductions in tuition for the MIT-Zaragoza Master of Engineering in Logistics & Supply Chain Management (ZLOG) program, which currently amounts to €21,500. The reductions will depend on the applicants’ academic achievements and distinctive personal accomplishment in addition to an interest in pursing a career in Logistics/Supply Chain Management. The available scholarships are:

- 25 % (€5,375) – Average evaluation grade of 6 - 7.9 

- 50 % (€10,750) – Average evaluation grade of 8 – 8.9 

- 100 % (€21,500) – Average evaluation grade of 9 – 10

 

The scholarships will not include all other costs like administrative fees, books, health insurance and living or travel expenses to Zaragoza or Boston for the international exchange.

Scholarship applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and awarded within 14 days of the submission of a completed scholarship application.

 

The scholarships are based upon the applicants’ fit with the relevant scholarship criteria.

 

A completed application and admission granted to the Master’s program is a pre-requisite for any scholarship award.

 

Incomplete applications will NOT be considered.

“Zaragoza Logistics Center/MSF Joint Scholarship”

 

Zaragoza Logistics Center (ZLC) and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) are awarding one full tuition scholarship for a qualified applicant with a background or experience in interacting with public health and/or humanitarian and development aid agencies in addition to an interest in pursuing a career in humanitarian logistics to undertake the MIT-Zaragoza Master of Engineering in Logistics & Supply Chain Management (ZLOG) program in the academic year 2013-2014.

 

The scholarship holder must make a contractual commitment to work for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) for a period of at least two years upon graduation of the ZLOG Program.

 

Through this scholarship, the Foundation hopes to attract outstanding future leaders who can make a vital contribution to filling the capacity gap in humanitarian aid organizations for well-trained supply chain and logistics professionals dedicated to the field of health and humanitarian logistics.

 

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian aid organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion and natural or man-made disasters in more than 70 countries. MSF has been setting up emergency medical aid missions around the world since 1971. In countries where health structures are insufficient or even non-existent, MSF collaborates with authorities such as the Ministry of Health to provide assistance. MSF works in rehabilitation of hospitals and dispensaries, vaccination programs and water and sanitation projects and it also works in remote health care centers, slum areas and provides training of local personnel. All this is done with the objective of rebuilding health structures to acceptable levels. Finally, in carrying out humanitarian assistance, MSF seeks also to raise awareness of crisis situations.

Zaragoza Logistics Center (ZLC) partnered in 2003 with the Center for Transportation and Logistics (CTL) at MIT to form the MIT-Zaragoza International Logistics Program which is a unique research and education partnership that brings together the supply chain interests of academia, industry and government – all linked to the development of the largest logistics park in Europe, PLAZA. Through this education program, ZLC offers a master's degree modeled on the MIT's Master of Engineering in Logistics (MLOG) and that offers the unique combination of a world-class supply chain degree taught in a truly global setting; the Master of Engineering in Logistics & Supply Chain Management (ZLOG) program. Also, ZLC has a research group that focuses on global health and humanitarian logistics issues and this research group has had multiple joint project collaborations with MSF.

  • Professional experience in developing countries, interaction with or working for public health or humanitarian and development aid agencies is a plus.

Although open to all individuals, preference will be given to applicants who are African nationals. Competition for the ZLOG scholarships is intense and highly competitive. The candidates will be chosen on the basis of:

  • Ability to make a significant contribution to the discipline of humanitarian logistics, with a strong aptitude for analysis and a creative approach to defining and solving problems. (30%)

  • Academic merit as according to academic records. (25%)

  • Experience and interest in working in multicultural teams. (20%)

  • Enthusiastic pursuit of self-improvement and a desire to be at the forefront in the creation and discovery of new knowledge. (10%)

  • Recognition of the importance of personal integrity and ethical decision making. (10%)

  • Background or experience in developing countries; or in interacting with or working for public health or humanitarian and development aid agencies. (5%)

 

The MSF will identify finalists by May 4th 2013. Phone interviews may be scheduled with all finalists. Applicants will be notified by e-mail of the outcome and the scholarship holder will receive an official award letter by May 10th 2013.
