The scholarship recipients will receive a $2,000 tuition waiver each semester renewable up to 8 semesters, not exceeding $16,000. Freshman and transfer students are eligible to apply. Deadline for the Fall 2014 semester is June 1, 2014, and for Spring 2015 is October 15, 2014. The scholarship covers 50% of tuition. Students seeking undergraduate degrees or doctorate degrees can receive the award for 8 semesters. Recipients pursuing master’s degrees can receive the award for 5 semesters. Recipients must be full-time, degree seeking students who have or plan to have an F-1 or J-1 student visa. Applicants must provide a demonstrated record of academic achievement. Students can apply for the scholarship online at ww.etsu.edu/iss . And on Feb. 16, the SDSU African Student Association showcased all of them at African Night, celebrating culture in spectacular color, song and dance. Event performances included several dances and a drama of a traditional baby naming ceremony. There was also a tribute to Nelson Mandela as well as a presentation on the service-learning initiatives African students at SDSU have participated with and engineered. Attendees came in their native dress and showed off their style in a cultural and colorful fashion show. Traditional foods like joloff rice, chapatti, waakye and fried rice, boforot and fried plantains were served, sending a heavenly aroma throughout the ballroom and offering a delicious experience for the taste buds.
