This assistantship will provide an exciting opportunity for a string player to pursue a graduate degree in music or in education while doing research and teaching at NSU, a university renowned for its education and music programs. The ideal candidate will be a string player (upper or lower strings), have a B.M.E. or a BA in music and will be seeking a Master's in Educational Studies or Administration, or an MME. Candidates with a B.A. or B.S. in another area of study who are proficient string players will also be strongly considered. Other areas of study at the graduate level are also available. A student must be taking at least 6 graduate credit hours in order to hold a GRA.

Assistantship: The assistantship provides 2/3 tuition remission plus minimum $6,478/year stipend for up to two years (four semesters). The assistantship will be awarded based on a completed application, music audition (by DVD or live), and an interview (in person or by phone).

The assistantship requires 20 hours/week work in the Department of Music. Duties will include leading rehearsals/sectionals and assisting with library and personnel for the Aberdeen University/Civic Symphony. Duties may also include teaching beginning strings class, assistance in the string studio and string methods course, and may include working with the jazz ensemble program and/or in chamber music, depending on the applicant's interests and skills.

Degree programs available: The graduate assistant may pursue any graduate degree in education offered by Northern State University, including an MME, MS in Educational Studies, or an MS in Education with emphasis in classroom teaching, Administration, Counseling, or E-learning.
