Belgium: PhD Positions, Neural Tensor Train Networks

Recommended Posts

We are looking for PhD candidates to fill 2 fully-funded 4-year PhD positions. One position is in the NUMA unit at the Department of Computer Science, KU Leuven, Belgium, while the other position is in the ICTEAM institute at the Mathematical Engineering Departement, UCLouvain, Belgium. We seek candidates with a Master's degree in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, and/or (Applied) Mathematics, broadly defined.

The PhD candidates will carry out fundamental scientific research on the NTTN project of professors E. Massart (UCLouvain) and N. Vannieuwenhoven (KU Leuven). This project will develop new machine learning models and corresponding training algorithms to tackle two current challenges in data science: growing primary energy consumption and proliferation of biases in training data. We aim to tackle these fundamental challenges through an interesting blend of deep learning, tensor decompositions, Riemannian optimization, and representation theory.

Applications will be considered as soon as we receive them. The procedure may be closed earlier than the final application date (March 26, 2024) in case 2 excellent candidates have been found. Some flexibility in the starting date of the position is possible, but it must be in 2024. The ideal starting date is before October 2024.
