Netherlands: PhD Position, Data Assimilation/NLA

Recommended Posts

The Computational Science group at TU Eindhoven is recruiting for a 4 year fully-funded PhD position to on “Using numerical linear algebra to exploit structure in data assimilation”. The position will be supervised by Jemima Tabeart and the student will join the active Centre for Analysis, Scientific Computing and Applications. Candidates with a strong applied Mathematics background and a Master’s degree in a numerate subject are encouraged to apply.

The PhD project will develop numerical linear algebra methods for data assimilation problems motivated by applications to numerical weather prediction and geosciences. Possible research directions include developing new preconditioners, iterative solvers and designing practical implementations under challenging operational constraints. Candidates do not require prior knowledge of data assimilation, but should be excited to apply numerical analysis techniques to high-dimensional problems of real-world importance.

Applications will be considered as soon as they are received. The procedure may be closed earlier than the final application date (April 6, 2024). Some flexibility in the starting date of the position is possible, with an ideal starting date before October 2024.
